[3Xin2-29] The Analysis of Wikipedia Category Ontology
Proposal of new category types and analysis using them
Keywords:Wikipedia, Ontology, Wikipedia Category
Wikipedia is one of the largest online encyclopedias, and there have been attempts to extract structured knowledge from Wikipedia, such as DBpedia, YAGO, and the Japanese Wikipedia Ontology. We have proposed the Wikipedia Category Ontology, which categorizes the types of Wikipedia categories and the relationships between them. In this framework, there are two main types of categories. One is a set category, which represents concepts such as "country" and "university". The other is a topic category, which represents specific topics such as "Japan" and "Hokkaido University". These classifications are decided based on the meaning of the Wikipedia category labels. However, based on the analysis of the actual role of categories in each article, there are certain categories whose articles are not instances of the category. In this paper, we analyze the Wikipedia Category Ontology and propose a new definition and a new method for category classification based on this analysis.
