[1O4-OS-18a-01] (OS invited talk) AI-Powered Support for Cardiovascular Care: Addressing the Heart Failure Pandemic

Keywords:Cardiovascular disease, Heart failure, Modelling

With the advent of an ultra-aging society, the number of patients with heart failure, the final stage of cardiovascular disease, is increasing year by year. The surge in heart failure patients, characterized by high medical costs, high mortality rates, and a significant proportion of all deaths, poses a major health problem, often referred to as the heart failure pandemic. Cosidering the limitations in increasing the number of heart failure specialists and developing miracle drugs, we believe that the only way to withstand this pandemic is to shift as many tasks as possible from humans (physicians) to systems. For the support of acute heart failure management, we have developed a hemodynamic simulator based on an electrical circuit model (cardiovascular biodigital twin). By using this simulator, we can reproduce the dynamic hemodynamics of individual patients on a PC, enabling comprehensive, large-scale, and high-speed pre-treatment assessments. In addition, for the management of subacute and chronic patients, a clinical support system that incorporates not only hemodynamics and clinical guidelines but also the treatment experience of specialists is required. To address this issue, with the support of AMED, we are developing and implementing an "AI-equipped D to D system to optimize community-based heart failure care in all regions of Japan."
