[13a-4F-5] Preparation of Mechanically Tough Polymer Gels Containing Ionic Liquid and their Application to Electrically-Driven Actuator
Keywords:gel,ionic liquid,actuator
Novel mechanically-tough polymer gel containing ionic liquid was prepared by solvent displacement of a double network hydrogel consisting of poly(4-styrenesulfonic acid) and poly(N, N-dimethylacrylamide) from water to ionic liquid [1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis-(trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide]. Ionic liquid swollen double network polymer gel (IL-DN gel) showed not only nonvolatile behavior, but also excellent mechanical performance, such as a high Young’s modulus and fracture stress. The IL-DN gel/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) doped with poly(4-styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT-PSS) actuators were fabricated by sandwiching the IL-DN gel between two flexible PEDOT:PSS films as electrodes. Under application of voltage (rectangular wave, 2V, 1~50Hz), the actuator showed quick and reversible bending motion.
