[15p-4E-4] Dynamic Observation of Water Droplets with Liquid-cell Environmental TEM

Liquid-cell environmental TEM enabling to observe specimens immersed in the fluid has been developed. In the present study, this technique has been applied to the investigation of dynamics of water droplets caused by the electron beam irradiation. In-situ observations showed that the water droplets was spreading on the membrane, which should be considered that the surface of the membrane changed from hydrophobic to hydrophilic due to the illuminated electrons directly or to air molecules ionized by the electron beam. In addition, it was demonstrated that the above phenomenon provides a big advantage to high-resolution imaging of specimens in the fluid because of the thinner liquid layer.
