[16a-2A-4] Control of group velocity with PT-symmetric coupled-resonator optical waveguide

It is a challenge to realize active control of the optical group velocity in a coupled-resonator optical waveguide (CROW). Here, we present a theoretical study on a CROW with parity-time (PT) symmetry, which periodically contains balanced gain and loss media in its cavities. An analysis with a tight-binding model shows that switching from an empty CROW to a PT-symmetric CROW can increase the group velocity of the frequency mode nearest to the PT phase transition point more than tenfold.
