[16a-PA1-1] Studies in effects of afterpulse events on entanglement-based quantum-key-distribution systems

we examine the performance of an entanglement-based quantum-key-distribution (QKD) system using single-photon detectors (SPDs) with poor afterpulse characteristics, both theoretically and experimentally. We determine that afterpulse probability, Pa, in the SPDs does not bind the lowest limit of the error rate in the sifted keys of the entanglement-based QKD system. Secure secret key sharing is possible even when Pa is considerably large, for example, exceeding 100%.
