We developed a method for the simple and rapid detection of pathogenic bacteria utilizing nanocomposite as an optical nanoantenna. We successfully formed nanoantennas through the antigen-antibody interaction between the composite and E. coli O157. This detection system promises to provide a new technique that will benefit efforts to improve safety by better detection of pathogenic bacteria.
