We applied the practical incoherent VUV light (Xe2 lamp, 172 nm) for the reduction of graphene oxide (GO). By irradiating the GO in high vacuum environment, the oxygen in the GO could be partially removed and the ratio of oxygen and carbon (RO/C)reached at ca. 0.25. For the sake of higher reduction level, we here report a thermal-assisted VUV reduction method by heating the GO when irradiating VUV light. When the temperature was 120oC, the RO/C further reduced to ca. 0.17, indicating a higher reduction level.
