▼ [13a-C302-7] Improvement of photocatalytic activities of plasmonic Ag nanostructure/P25 hybrid systems
Keywords:Photocatalyst, Localized surface plasmon resonance, Silver nanoprisms
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) has been widely used in ad-vanced oxidative processes as a photocatalyst. However, due to the large band gap (3.0 ~ 3.2 eV), TiO2 can only absorb UV light and shows limited photoresponse range. To improve this drawback, doping Ag is one of the promising methods to modify TiO2 because its nanostructure shows strong localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) in the visible light range and extends the absorption spectrum of pure TiO2. By changing the size and morphology of Ag nanoparticle, the plasmon resonance properties of Ag can be controlled. Moreover, compared with the well-discussed Ag nanosphere, Ag nanoprism has a longer plasmon reso-nance wavelength and could be a better co-catalyst. In this study, two plasmonic Ag nanostructures/P25 (commercial TiO2) hybrid systems were synthesized and compared. In bright field TEM images, the 0.432 wt% Ag nanospheres immobilized on TiO2 could be easily distinguished from TiO2 nanoparticles, which possessed a larger size range above 20 nm. The average side length of nanoprisms was about 75 nm based on the TEM images. The photocatalytic activities of Ag nanostructure/P25 hybrid systems were investigated under the irradiation of the fluorescent lamp to simulate the environment of interior light illumination. The degradation of MB was monitored by the intensity evolution of the strongest characteristic peak as a function of illumination time. In our study, 0.432 wt% Ag nanoprisms/P25 displayed the highest photocatalytic efficiency.
