[13a-D63-7] A new probe for diagnosis of unstable vessel plaque by ultrasonic velocity change

As for the instability of the vessel plaque, it is thought to be related to the size and distribution of the lipid core in the plaque. We have proposed to utilize the temperature dependence of the ultrasonic velocity to identify unstable vessel plaque, and have demonstrated its usefulness. In the presentation, we will show a new probe composed of two ultrasonic transducers combined orthogonally through a thin metallic plate: one is used for heating and the other is for ultrasonic imaging. Also, we will show the ultrasonic velocity-change images of carotid artery phantom obtained using the combined probe.
