[13p-A34-2] Crystal-oriented Functional Ceramics Prepared by Magnetic Field Assisted Forming and Subsequent Sintering

Keywords:crystal orientation, magnetic field

The orientation process using magnetic field is an effective method for development of functional polycrystalline ceramics. In this method, crystal axis of particles can be oriented to desirable direction by using an anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility in strong magnetic field. In this presentation, we report the development of crystal-oriented polycrystalline ceramics using this technique. We introduce to fabricate a non-lead piezoelectric material, (SrCa)2NaNb5O15 ceramic and an electro-optical material (Sr0.6Ba0.4)Nb2O6 ceramic. Besides, we present a novel colloidal processing using UV curable resin for shortening the drying time in the magnetic field, and we can achieve highly particle-oriented structures.
