The Casimir force acting between a spherical Au tip and a Si sample was calculated from the distance dependence of the frequency shifts. An atomically flat and clean Si sample allowed us to measure the Casimir force in the condition where the electrostatic force is negligible compared to the Casimir force. The results show that the Lifshitz theory for the Casimir force can be used in the nanoscale.
