Bacteriorhodopsin (bR) is an attractive photosensitive biomaterial. Irradiation of bR on the interface of electrodes and the electrolyte generates a time-differential photocurrent with no power supply. We have developed a novel optical-flow sensing method using a bR-based 2-D bipolar photosensor array with bR wildtype and its variant (D96N).
