[14p-B9-5] Neutron detection with the self-activation of a scintillator and its application

Akihiro Nohtomi1, Genichiro Wakabayashi2 (1.Kyushu Univ., 2.Kindai Univ.)

Keywords:neutron, the self-activation method, CsI

The self-activation method with an iodine-containing scintillator has been proposed for a high sensitive and handy neutron measurement. The method is based on the efficient detection of beta-rays emitted from I-128 (half life 25 min) generated in the scintillator itself. Commercially available CsI detectors can be used for this purpose. Application of this technique to medical fields will be discussed.
