[15a-P8-11] Design of directional coupling type Si polarization splitter

We have designed two types of waveguide-type Si polarization splitters.The polarization extinction ratio for the two-line polarization splitter was more than 50 dB with an excess loss of less than 0.1 dB at around the wavelength of 1.55 µm for TE polarized light. The three-line polarization splitter showed broadband characteristics and the polarization extinction ratio of more than 40 dB with an excess loss of less than 0.4 dB for the wavelength range from 1.45 µm to 1.65µm.The polarization extinction ratio could be improved by using two different types of waveguide polarization splitters which have different heights.
