Although Ag nanoparticles (NP) exhibit strong plasmonic effects, they have not been studied well since they are regarded as unstable substances in air. In silver halide photography, Ag NPs have been utilized for a long period in air by overcoming two kinds of degradation mechanisms; (1)oxidation, (2)oxidation→diffusion of silver ions→re-formation of Ag nanoparticles. Experiments from the viewpoints of the above mechanisms have revealed that (1) can be overcome by the adjustment of Fermi levels between Ag NPs and binders and the selection of SAM, and that (2) can be overcome by the retardation of difussion of silver ions and re-formation of Ag NPs in addition to the above measures for (1).
