We have developed a new lipid-conjugated DNA (chimera including a RNA monomer) that forms a hairpin structure. This formed micrometer-sized structures from nanometer-sized building blocks during breakage at the RNA site. Furthermore, this transition to self-assembly resulted in the emergence of a network structure in the presence of Mg2+ and heat stimulation. The current finding is the first report of heat-induced micrometer-sized self-assembly of such informational molecules. This work represents a new model of the origin of life regarding to its information and energy.
