We have developed a new non-contact manipulation technique using a paramagnetic property of triplet-state electrons generated in a phosphorescent material. In the experiment, we used anthracene which is a typical phosphorescent material in which electrons can be activated by a UV light. Our observations indicated that the anthracene particles floating on the water surface moved toward a stronger magnetic field while which were irradiated by a UV light. This is the first demonstration of non-contact manipulation by the light and magnetic field.
