[19p-P1-8] Single stream magnetic separation system for plastic materials using permanent magnets

We have developed a new magnetic separation system for plastic materials. Mostly, the separation method for plastic materials is composed of two separation devices; one utilizes the buoyancy force of water, and the other utilizes flowing air in a dry condition. Since such a combinatorial system is huge and complex, a new simple and small-scale separation system is desired. Our new magnetic separation system uses permanent magnets which generate magnetic field gradient keen enough to apply a strong magnetic force to a materials to be separated. In our system, we used ethanol as the medium instead of water, which allows us to separate all plastic materials under wet condition; the separation is completed in a simple single stream line.
