[19p-W611-12] Perfomic Acid Synthesis by Water-Sealed Plasma-Liquid Interface Reaction of CO2 (II)
Keywords:plasma reaction,performic acid,oxidation/sterilization
Performic acid (PFA) is synthesized by the conventional chemical method as a strongly acidic and highly concentrated mixture with formic acid and hydrogen peroxide. It is quite unstable and requires special care in handling. Whereas relatively dilute PFA(aq) is easily obtained at neutral pH by the novel plasma method introduced in the preceding talk in series. Despite its low concentration this brand-new PFA(aq) exhibits very strong oxidizing power along with many other interesting properties not comparable to those of hydrogen peroxide solution even tenfold more concentrated. The resultant high commercial value of our PFA(aq) relies on the novelty of the new plasma method as a breakthrough in realizing selective plasma-chemical synthesis.
