To obtain both a fast response and a detection efficiency sufficient for high-energy X-rays of >30 keV, we tested a scintillation detector using a proportional-mode silicon avalanche photodiode. In case of using a HfO2-loaded plastic scintillator, a good time resolution of 0.34 ±0.06ns (FWHM) was obtained for 57.6 keV X-rays. This was a better value than that of a Pb-loaded plastic scintillator (0.54±0.06 ns).
