Up to now, nanostructure formations using melamine and some other molecules have been actively studied. In the present study we attempt to fabricate molecular layers on metal surface using aqueous solutions of melamine and formaldehyde. First we prepared aqueous solutions of melamine and formaldehyde. Where we adjusted pH of the formaldehyde solution using NaOH. We employed Au(111) films formed on cleaved mica by vacuum evaporation as substrates. After flame-annealing of the substrate, the aqueous solutions were applied to the surface and heat treated using a hot plate. Following solvent evaporations, the sample surfaces were observed by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) in air at room temperature using PtIr tip. In some experiments with relatively lower temperatures of the heat treatments, stripe and indistinct structures were found. We believe the structures were induced by unreacted molecules.
