Bulk-heterojunction relies on charge separation between different materials with an energy offset to facilitate carrier extraction as current, but inherently losing voltage. We started our exploration on organic solar cells employing intra- and intermolecular CT light absorbers. As the energy cascade is removed, high voltage is guaranteed, while current extraction becomes difficult. We found that some compounds with high CT characters achieves free carrier generation due to reduced exciton binding energy.
