[22a-S423-5] Optical properties of organic functionalized water-dispersible silicon nanocrystals
Keywords:nanocrystals,surface functionalized,silicon
Solution-dispersible silicon nanocrystals (Si NCs) are useful as precursors not only for printable optoelectronic devices but also for fluorescent marker on bio-medical application. For bio-medical application, it is essential to improve Si NCs dispersibility and long-term stability in polar solvents such as water. Recently, we report a new type of Si NCs dispersible in polar solvents by the formation of high boron (B) and phosphorus (P) concentration shell. The high B and P concentration shell induces negative potential on the surface and makes Si NCs dispersible in polar solvents due to the electrostatic repulsion. The photoluminescence energy is controlled by the size in a wide range (1.85-0.85 eV). However, preparing Si NCs conjugated with bio-materials such as protein, it is necessary to activate Si NC surface with amino or carboxyl group-terminated organic molecules. In this work, we develop B and P codoped Si NCs by applying hydrosilylation with acrylic acid and allylamine.
