△ [5p-C13-7] Humid annealed method to prepare nano phase separated film using amphiphilic diblock copolymer with amorphous blocks

Recently, we have reported that poly (N-dodecylacrylamide) (pDDA) formed a uniform and well-ordered lamellar structure by annealing under humid condition. In this study, we have designed and synthesized amphiphilic diblock copolymer, pDDA-b-PEG, composed of amphiphilic pDDA and hydrophilic poly (ethylene glycol). pDDA-b-PEG was synthesized by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of DDA using PEGylated thiocarbonylthio compound as a macro-RAFT agent. A thin film of pDDA-b-PEG was prepared by spin coating and annealing under humid condition. X-ray diffraction (XRD) of the humid annealed film showed strong diffraction peaks with q value in the ratio of 1:2:3, which indicated a lamellar formation with the plane parallel to the substrate. Moreover, hexagonal packing of the block copolymer in the layer plane was confirmed by small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and atomic force microscope (AFM). The hexagonal pack was not observed in a conventional annealing of the block copolymer. Therefore, results indicate that the lamellar structuring of the pDDA block induce the highly ordered structure.
