Polymer films with precisely controlled two-dimensional molecular orientation over large areas enable one to generate unique functionalities for high-performance devices. Recently, we have proposed a novel method controlling alignment via photo-polymerization of liquid crystal monomers where molecules diffuse between irradiated and unirradiated regions. We anticipate that molecular diffusion imposes shear stress on main chains of the resultant polymers. In this study, to elucidate the alignment process, we analyzed the thermal stability of the molecular alignment fabricated by the present method.
