Keywords:in-situ observation, silicon, iron oxide

The Fe2O3 (α-hematite) is main component of iron ore and used as natural resource for ironmaking. On the other hand SiO2 (Silica) is main gangue of iron ore and main component of slag in ironmaking. Recently we found that Fe formation by the reaction of hematite and silica without any other reducing agent using in-situ observation technique in transmission electron microscope (TEM). We also found that the formation of iron-silicon alloys using hematite and silicon with the assist of electron irradiation in TEM. These results indicated that there is the possibility of making iron silicide directly from iron ore with devise of experimental condition.
