Silicon (Si)-layer was formed on silver (Ag)-substrates using electrodeposition technique through electrochemical-reduction of purified (99%) diatomaceous earth (SiO2) in molten calcium chloride (CaCl2) at temperature of 855o C. Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) method confirm formation of poly-crystalline Si-film along with microcrystalline phases. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicates Si-film has morphology with rough surfaces.
