We have proposed a new photovoltaic system in which specially designed silicon photovoltaic (PV) cells are illuminated by solar-pumped lasers (SPLs) emitting at 1060 nm. To realize long-distance transmission of intense SPL via an optical fiber, we have improved the light-trapping configuration: a shortpass filter (SPF) on the front surface and a diffuse reflector on the back surface of the cell. The SPF was designed so that it transmit obliquely incident light from an optical fiber with NA = 0.2. By replacing the surface bandpass filter previously used for a space-propagating beam with the SPF, the coupling efficiency between the PV cell and fiber significantly improved.
