Development of a highly controllable doping technique for single crystal organic semiconductors will drastically expand the potential application of organic materials. We report on a solution based controlled molecular doping technique for single crystal organic semiconductors. The doped organic single crystals were grown by a newly proposed crystal growth method which uses low vapor pressure liquid thin film as a crystal growth field and supplies source solution as atomized droplets by electrospray. In this study, red laser dye of 4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-methyl-6(4-dimethylaminostyryl)-4H-pyran (DCM) was doped in 2-(4-Biphenylyl)-5-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (PBD) single crystal with changing the doping concentration, resulting photoluminescence (PL) emission intensity dependency on the DCM concentration. This method is expected to contribute to the progress of optical devices and electronic device technologies with various combinations of doped organic single crystals which is generally difficult to achieve by a wet process which is a balanced system .
