Mn2+ ion doped in divalent metal phosphate such as γ-Zn3(PO4)2 or Mg3(PO4)2 exhibits red phosphorescence (PL) and long lasting phosphorescence (LLP) derived from 4T1g6A1g transition. While LLP of γ-Zn3(PO4)2:Mn2+ was observed for sevral hours, the duration time of LLP from Mg3(PO4)2:Mn2+ was particularly short. To clarify the difference in LLP duration time, we prepared (ZnxMg0.95-x)3(PO4)2:Mn2+0.05 with various molar ratios of Zn2+ and Mg2+ and systematically investigated their PL and LLP properties in terms of crystal structure.
