Keywords:Surface plasmon, InGaN Quantum Well, PL enhancement

Metal thin films, such as silver or aluminum can highly enhance photoluminescence (PL) from InGaN quantum well (QW) by surface plasmon (SP) effect. For example, aluminum film can lead several score times PL enhancement mainly due to increased light absorption efficiency. In contrast, internal quantum efficiency (IQE) improvement was observed in case of silver.
PL mapping measurement was carried out in order to visually evaluate the difference of PL enhancement mechanism between aluminum and silver using fluorescence microscope with motorized stage. The sample was prepared by metal deposition on green emitting InGaN QW. Silver and aluminum were used as plasmonic materials. The silver coating brought PL enhancement aconpanied with obvious PL peak shift. On the other hand,PL enhancement by the aluminum coating didn't brought any peak shift. This diference should be originatied in each mechanisms leading to PL enhancement.
