Proton permeability of monolayer graphene grown on Au(111) electrode was evaluated using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Monolayer graphene with high crystalline structure was synthesized on Au(111) single crystal by atmospheric CVD. STM measurement was found that after hydrogen evolution reaction, nano-bubble like structures, where hydrogen gas is stored, were produced. Furthermore, defect-like structure was also observed in surface of the bubble structure, indicating that the defects works as proton channel.
