Effects of mirror-lamp (M-L) sytem position on the crystal growth of rutile by the infrared convergent heating floating zone (IR-FZ) method were investigated. At the distant the distant position of M-L system compared with that in the conventional IR-FZ method, the molten zone was stabilized and a larger rutile crystal could be grown. The interface shapes between the feed and the molten zone was, however, getting rougher state at the more distant position of M-L system. The slower rotation rate of the feed was found to be effective to make rough feed-side interface smooth.
