A glass capillary plate (CP) gas detector is a hole-type micro pattern gaseous detector (MPGD). We have successfully developed an optical imaging CP gas detector, which consists of a CP gas detector, a mirror, and a cooled CMOS camera system, for imaging of a-ray and X-ray photoelectron track. Owing to the high imaging capability of the optical imaging CP gas detector, we have started to develop a neutron imager. The performance test was carried out by using a thermal neutron beam. The tracks of a-rays or 7Li produced by the interaction between neutrons and 10B were clearly observed. We have also investigated the characteristics by a computer simulation using the particle and heavy ion transport code system (PHITS). We report on the status of the recent development for the optical imaging CP gas detector as a neutron imager.
