[15p-F202-8] Stability of Ag Nanoparticles: From Silver Halide Photography to Plasmonics

Tadaaki Tani1, Ryota Kan2, Yuka Yamano2, Takayuki Uchida2,1 (1.Soc.Phot.Imag.Jpn., 2.Tokyo Polytech.Univ.)

Keywords:silver nanoparticles, stability, work function

The authors are studying the origin of the stability of Ag nanoparticles in silver halide photography from physical point of view and trying to use its results to stabilize Ag nanoparticles in plasmonic devices. As origins for the degradation of Ag nanoparticles, an attension is paid in this study, not only to their oxidation, but also to their sulfidation. It has been found that the SAM of AgI on Ag nanoparticles could protect them from their oxidation and sulfidation by increasing their work function and decreasing the diffusibility of silver ions.
