長さ計測はよく空気中で行われる。長さ計測結果は空気屈折率の影響を受ける。APRILを用いた計測は、長さ補正に、空気の群屈折率を計算する。その計算は経験式とその微分が必要である。本稿では、この微分計算を差分近似で行い、近似の計算結果を報告する。
