Photochromic terarylenes undergo photochemical isomerization reaction by UV irradiation to form colored closed-ring isomers, which returns to colorless open-ring isomers upon visible irradiation or oxidation via cation radical state. In this study, we found that the bleaching reaction is induced by the X-ray irradiation with extremely high sensitivity. The DOMINO-bleaching reaction triggered by the X-ray irradiation of about 0.001 Gy leads to significant color-change.
