[16a-F205-9] Local magnetic measurements over sample surface by distance modulation in an STM-SQUID microscope(2)
Keywords:SQUID microscope
We have been developed an STM-SQUID microscope, in which a high permeability probe is employed. In our conventional method to obtain the magnetic image, the SQUID output signal was directly mapped. The result included the magnetic information not only from the sample’s surface but also far from the surface, namely “background field”. Owing to the background field, image processings were required to make sample’s local magnetic field distribution clear. It caused an issue to improve the quantitative performance. Then, we focused the distance modulation technique for the solution of this issue. In distance modulation technique, the synchronized component of the SQUID output was detected while the distance between the probe tip and the sample surface was modulated in a constant amplitude. We successfully obtained the quantitative magnetic images (modulation image) in ~100 nm spatial resolution by using the distance modulation technique without any image processings.
In addition, we found that the vector components of the sample’s magnetic field could be extracted depending on the modulation direction, from the electromagnetic simulations and the actual measurements.
