It is crucial to improve the performance of spin torque oscillators (STOs) for practical applications. We developed a phase locked loop to stabilize a STO and analyzed its behavior to quantitatively estimate the STO’s bare performance needed for practical applications. This presentation will overview the current status and future prospect of the STO research by presenting the above results, as well as various techniques to further improve the STO’s performance.
