[16p-F201-4] Low driving Liquid Crystal Display Device by Twist Angle Transition
Keywords:liquid crystal, weak anchoring, twisted nematic cell
A conventional 90 degree twisted nematic liquid crystal cell is fabricated using strong anchoring surfaces. On the other hand, the twist angle can be changed by the anchoring. We use the weak and strong anchoring surfaces and fabricate the TN cell in which the LC orientation turn from a homogeneous orientation without the voltage application to the twisted one when applying the voltage. We numerically estimate a LC director distribution and the transmittance in the cell with the weak anchoring of Wa=K22/d, as a function of applied voltage. The driving voltage V90 decreases to 1.45 V, comparing to 1.7 V in the conventional TN cell when the LC of 5CB is used.
