[17a-211-7] Are the Silicon Heterojunction Solar Cells Suitable for Concentrators?

Hiroshi Noge1 (1.Fukushima Univ.)

Keywords:solar cell, silicon, heterojunction

The performance of double-sided contact silicon heterojunction solar cells under concentration has been investigated by 2d simulation. While the open circuit voltages of all the p-type and n-type single hetero (SH) cells and the double hetero (DH) cell increase with the concentration ratio, the FF and the efficiency of the p-type SH and DH cells decrease with the ratio larger than 2 to 3. This is probably due to the series resistance in the tunneling current flowing over the large discontinuity of valence band at the hetero interface.
