[17a-315-5] Investigation of Expanded Austenite Locally Formed by Atmospheric-Pressure Plasma

Keywords:expanded austenite, atmospheric-pressure plasma

Expanded austenite is a hard layer that contains a high concentration of nitrogen to expand. The expanded austenite layer increase the surface hardness of austenitic stainless steel while keeping its corrosion resistance. We have succeeded in forming expanded austenite layers on SUS304 steel using the pulsed-arc atmospheric-pressre plasma jet for the first time.
