Millimeter wave has been applied to the automotive radar and full-body scanner. However, mechanical scanning of the millimeter wave has a problem with cost and space. Liquid crystal materials that have dielectric anisotropy and large electro-optical effects, are candidates for microwave and millimeter-wave modulation devices.
In this report, the liquid crystal / dielectric material multilayered structure which has a gradient of dielectric widths and stacked in alternating liquid-crystal layer and dielectric layer are proposed. Millimeter-wave deflection are calculated by using FDTDmethod and estimated for design of the millimeter-wave deflection devices.
