We developed a novel particle tracking velocimetry method in a microscale area using nano-sized tracer particles. Because nanoparticles are difficult to observe directly in a microscale observation area, we observed light scattering from individual nanoparticles and captured micro-sized bright spots corresponding the particles. In addition, because nanoparticles have faster random Brownian motion than submicron- or micron-sized particles, we examined calculation methods of flow velocity profiles correcting the effect of the Brownian motion to determine the flow velocity profiles accurately. The developed method can be utilized for various liquid samples owing to non-limited variety of nano-sized tracers.
