[18a-231B-8] Frequency enhancement of couplant-free Hertzian contact probe

Couplant-free measurement is essential to realize nondestructive inspection in aged concrete structures. A point contact probe is one of couplant-free method but the frequency (50kHz) is too low to attain sufficient resolution for detecting internal flaws and defects. To solve this problem, we have developed Hertzian contact probe of longitudinal wave, consisting of soft-type PZT element and hemisphere ceramic tip. In this study, results of preliminary experiment are shown for enhancing the frequency of the Hertzian contact probe.
