[19p-224B-8] Mechanical properties of carbon nanotube under the uniaxial strain

Kazufumi Yoneyama1, Susumu Okada1 (1.Univ. Tsukuba)

Keywords:carbon nanotube, mechanical property

Owing to their structural flexibility, CNT mats are promising materials for flexible nanodevices. In such devices, each CNT inherently possesses the structural modulations, such as stretching and bending. These structural modulations may modulate the physical properties of CNTs. Thus, in this presentation, we theoretically investigate the mechanical and electronic properties of zigzag, chiral, and armchair CNTs under the tensile and compressive strain, based on the density functional theory. Our calculations showed that these properties are sensitive to the chirality of CNTs.
