In this study, we proposed a new non-platinum catalyst for fuel cells that is obtained easily and has high catalytic activity. The new catalyst was fabricated by only mixing acetyleneblack (AB) and iron phthalocyanine (FePc) with a mortar. This process is much easier than conventional non-Pt catalysts. Therefore, we can reduce the cost and explore the active sites for Oxygen Reduction Reaction (ORR). In addition, cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPc) and phthalocyanine (Pc) were employed respectively instead of FePc in order to reveal the effect of central metal (M) and coordinate bond (M-N) in the Pc structure against the electrocatalytic activity. The electrocatalytic activity of each catalysts was measured by Linear Sweep Voltammetry (LSV).
In the result of LSV, we succeeded to fabricate the new catalyst (FePc/AB) possessing the high electrocatalytic activity by simple mixing process. In addition, we estimated M and M-N in the catalysts are essential active sites for appearance of electrocatalytic activity because only Pc/AB catalyst didn’t show the activity.
