High conversion efficiencies have been achieved in multi-junction solar cells composed from different bandgap materials. In two-terminal configuration, however, the annual yield of multi-juction solar cells for terrestrial application can be reduced by current mismatch due to spectral mismatch condition. In this paper, to improve the tolerance against current mismatch, we investigate multi-junction solar cells in three-terminal configuration. Three-terminal multi-junction solar cells are fabricated using smart-stack technology that is a new semiconductor bonding technique using conductive Pd nanoparticles.
