It is important to control molecular alignment over large areas in production of functional films. In recent years, a photoalignment process has been attracted much attention because spatially selective molecular alignment can be induced in a non-contact process. We have developed a new photoalignment method that uses the molecular motion accompanied by photopolymerization as the driving force of alignment. In this study, we doped a small amount of azobenzene, which changes their alignment depending on the direction of linearly polarized light, and investigated the effect of polarized light irradiation on molecular alignment.
